Fibromyalgia and Pain Management

Providing Treatment for Chronic Pain

Chronic pain can be debilitating, preventing you from being able to do everyday tasks. Horizon Rehab’s goal is to relieve your pain to help you get back to your living your everyday life in the way you are used to. Using a combination of posture realignment, stretching and trigger point release in conjunction with fitness programs and education efforts, Horizon Rehab can effectively treat fibromyalgia and chronic pain to help you.

Pain Education Program

At Horizon Rehabilitation Centers, we provide research based Therapeutic Neuroscience Education (TNE) in addition to movement-based interventions to address chronic or persistent pain.  Scientific evidence shows that patients who better understand their pain, and what pain truly is, experience less of it.  Through education we can help reduce the fear of pain, help you move better, exercise more and begin to take back the things that your pain has taken from you.  This 6-8 week program focuses on reducing the sensitivity of your body’s “pain alarm” through education and manual therapy techniques, guides you through a safe and comfortable progression of exercises and leaves you with a much greater ability to face each day without fear of pain.

Achy to Active Program

One of Horizon Rehab’s most successful programs, the “Achy to Active” program helps patients with fibromyalgia effectively manage the chronic pain in their muscles, joints, and skin. Using comprehensive management, physical conditioning and fatigue management treatment models, this 6- to 8-week program gradually increases your aerobic endurance, educates you on a proper diet, manages fatigue and provides exercises to improve your general level of strength.

Functional Dry Needling

Functional Dry Needling is a therapeutic intervention to address muscular tightness and local muscle spasm. An injury or chronic pain can lead to local "trigger points" or "knots" in the involved muscle, which in turn, lead to further pain and limited movement.

Functional Dry Needling involves reducing or eliminating these trigger points by inserting a thin, disposable, filament needle into the skin and muscle at the site of the affected myofascial trigger point. Functional Dry Needling can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal problems including, but not limited to neck, back, and shoulder pain, arm pain (tennis elbow, carpel tunnel, golfer's elbow), headaches including migraines and tension type headaches, buttock pain, and leg pain (sciatica, hamstring strains, calf tightness).

Manual Therapy

Using joint and soft tissue mobilization techniques, your physical therapist gradually helps increase your mobility while reducing pain. By incorporating tested movements to ensure best results, manual therapy helps patients regain function that has been lost to chronic pain.

Electrotherapy Pain Relief Devices

Electrotherapy can help relieve and manage chronic pain. This kind of pain is usually the result of an accident or other injury, perhaps to the lower back or a joint in the hand or knee. If it lasts long enough, the pain itself becomes a disease. The most common forms of chronic pain are back pain, and arthritis. Chronic pain is often treated with over-the-counter painkillers and prescription drugs. These drugs may have unwanted side effects and can be very expensive. In contrast, an electrotherapy pain relief device provides drug-free relief for the pain of arthritis, back pain, sciatica and many other kinds of chronic pain at a very affordable cost. Electrotherapy comes in a variety of forms (TENS. IFC, NMES, MENS) and the physical therapists at Horizon Rehabilitation Centers will evaluate you to determine which type of electrotherapy will best address your symptoms.
